Sharing playlists and libraries using iTunes

How often have you wanted a friend or co-worker a cool tune from home? How often have you not been able to do it because you can't send it to them? Well with this little trick, you can solve that problem by reading today's quick and painless article about sharing your playlists and libraries using iTunes. Hit more to learn.

First of all, you and the recipient(s) will need to be connected to a VPN program like Hamachi. You can view my article on Hamachi  and VPN here.

Once you've got setup and connected open up iTunes.

open

Once you've got that open, click "Edit" then "Preferences". Alternatively just press Ctrl+,(comma).

preferences

Select the "Sharing" tab as I have in the above image. Next thing you will need to do is check "Share my library on my local network". This will allow your library (or selected playlists if you choose to do so after selecting this. You can see the option in the image) to be shared and listened to over the network. The network includes computers connected over a home or office network as well as computers connected to VPNs such as those setup by Hamachi.

Once you've setup the sharing you will be able to view and listen to the shared lists of others and you will be able to do the same for theirs.

That's it. It really is that easy. Sorry for the amount of short articles later - we promise there are some more big ones on the way. For now you'll just have to make do with the short, but useful, articles. Browse around Daily Tip for more great articles, tips and tricks.
