- Prune back deciduous plants once the frost has gone
Get a pair of secateurs out and trim back all dead, or failing, shoots from the deciduous plants (the ones that drop their leaves in the autumn) to encourage new flowering shoots. Doing this will also help strengthen the growth of the plant.
- Clean out old pots ready for summer bedding
Once you've cleaned up your leaf debris and trimmed back the shrubs, you can clean out the old pots. We do this to remove any diseases lurking in the leftover soil or smudges in the pots. The best way to wash it is to get some disinfectant, or better yet some jays fluid, cover any holes, pour a bit of the liquid into the bottom and brush it up around the inside of the pot. Leave it for 30 minutes and then rinse it out with water. Nice and easy.
